WELCOME LETTER FROM ADAM CARVER Enough about me and onto more important things! I wanted to put something in this newsletter primarily to praise God for the wonderful way in which He has blessed the Goings Trust financially in the last year. The ministry is on a sound financial footing and for this I want to give all the glory to God as well as thanking those of you who have sown and continue to sow into the Goings Trust. The trust was able to pay Mark a reasonable salary last year. However my heart, and I believe God's heart, is to bless those who serve Him faithfully in expanding His Kingdom. After all, nothing about His Kingdom is "reasonable"! At present, most of the funding for the trust comes from churches who pay Mark to be their evangelist for missions. This is a source of great blessing. However it's very nature means that this income is dependent on when Mark is booked for missions and is also dependent on the income of the church to fund Mark. As a result this income is neither regular nor consistent . To enable the trust to plan its finances better I would like to increase the number of individuals who regularly give to the Goings Trust. This does not have to be a great amount, indeed my preference would be for many giving a little rather than a few giving a lot. Please prayerfully consider whether God would have you support the Goings Trust financially as well as in prayer as no doubt you already do. You will see from this statement that the 40:3 trust has agreed to take on the administration for Mark. What does that mean for the Goings Trust? There have been a number of people who have played a very significant role in the area of administration of the Goings Trust over the years and their efforts have all been much appreciated. However, the lack of an office and therefore of a centre where these efforts could be co-ordinated has sometimes led to frustration. Thank you for all your efforts that have helped us to get to our present position. Now we are taking a significant step forward. The 40:3 Trust has an office based in Coventry which handles all the administration for their full-time evangelist Ian Knox and for five associate evangelists. The office is run by Darren Burgess and two part-time secretaries. Mark has worked closely with the 40:3 Trust in recent years, and has been a member of their team at several town-wide missions. The Trust already handles Mark's administration of these events and they have kindly offered to extend this service to cover ALL Mark's administration. For information about the 40:3 Trust, go to their web site. What does this mean in practical terms? As from October 1 st of this year the following changes will be in place : The postal address of the Goings Trust will be PO Box 403 Coventry CV5 8WW. All correspondence should be sent to this address. The Goings Trust Office telephone number will be a Coventry number as a separate phone line will be put into the 40:3 Trust office for the exclusive use of the Goings Trust. This line will have an answering machine so messages can be left if nobody is manning the office at the time. We will let all our supporters have the new number as soon as possible. Darren Burgess will become the office manager of Goings Trust. This appointment will be a non-salaried position but giving some recognition to the role he would play. I would ask that you work patiently with us through what must inevitably be a period of transition. We believe that the benefits to be gained from our administration being done by an office with a great deal of experience in the area of evangelism far outweighs any inconveniences that might arise from our having to change some of our practices of the past. Let me emphasise that Goings Trust will not be responsible for the salary of Darren or of his secretarial assistants. Their time will be given to us free of charge. However, we will, of course, be responsible for the cost of installing a new telephone line and the cost of all calls. We will be responsible for all administrative costs such as photocopying, stamps, stationery etc. Furthermore, for this new partnership to work effectively, Darren will have to meet with Mark on a fairly regular basis and the Goings Trust will cover Darren's travel expenses where necessary. There will be some increased expenditure as far as Goings Trust is concerned and we would ask that you bear that in mind as you continue to give your support to the Trust and to Mark's ministry. However, the cost is minimal when we consider what we are gaining and I am sure that you will soon see the benefit of Mark being released from many administrative duties to fulfill the purpose to which God has called him. Please pray for all concerned as we seek to implement these changes as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Peter Hannam, Chairman of Goings Trust |
